  • V-Ray for Rhino | Stereoscopic renderings possible?

    Hi dudes and dudettes,

I already posted such topic in the FA forum, but as I'm a bit in hurry, as a customer is waiting for an answer. So:

last week I was asked by said customer if there was any possibility for me to make his final renderings also stereoscopic and viewable with those red-green 3D glasses (the ones, you use in the 3D cinema or for watching 3D TV). I have searched a bit, but found almost nothing V-Ray related on this topic.

Do you know how it's done (if possible)? A custom VFB channel maybe?

Thanks in Advance & best regards

It can be done with vray but for other software, like C4D. Rhino doesn't have a proper camera object. In other software you can ad a stereo camera (anaglyph is the red cyan you are looking for) and render with Vray.

      Thanks,
Well, it's not very often, that that such images are requiered, but still...

Btw, what equipment do you need to view such rends?

Just red/green or red/cyan glasses you can buy for cheap on internet. The results are not so good though. Don't expect much stereo effect from that technique.

I'm also not a big fan, but the customer has recently seen a 3D presentation and is now curious about it. Would You have an alternative idea for a better stereo effect?

If you need to see the 3d render in a printed support (piece of paper, magazine, poster) than you have to stick with the anaglyphs. Otherwise, if the client wants to see it form a screen/monitor/smartphone there are better and more efficient solutions of course.

Guess I have to talk a bit more with my customer about the possibilities. And what 'more effcient solutions' do You have in mind?

@ Micha: Thanks, these look good.

Last beta -> camera options -> enable stereo. You get a pair of images side-by-side. In postwork you could convert this pair two any stereo format you like. There a free tools at the www available.

And what about the post production of the stereo images? Does it mean I have to make 'the' perfect 3D rendering and deal with it as it is or can I apply the workflow (build 3D > render > post production)?

Why not? It is a pair of images only. You need to do the same on both only.
